Before beginning the steps outlined below you will need to have a Wireless Network Interface Card installed in your computer. There should be installation instructions and possibly drivers with the card. If you are installing a network card then Windows should auto-detect the new card and install the proper drivers for it. If not, then you will have to go through the Install New Hardware wizard located in the Control Panel. The steps below are in addition to the installation of the Network Card.
You will need to configure and/or install the TCP/IP protocol. First click on Start and choose Settings from the menu and click on Control panel. This will bring up a window similar to the one below. Double click the net work icon.
If you do not have TCP/IP as one of your installed network components on the Network window, similar to the one below, then click Add otherwise go to step 2:
Select Protocol and click Add:
From the following list of items choose Microsoft and TCP/IP from Network Protocols and click OK:
You may be asked for the Window 95/98 CD at this time.
In your Network Control Panel you should only have the following network components installed: 1) Client for Microsoft Networks, 2) the adapter for your network card and 3) TCP/IP.

In your Network Control Panel window, click TCP/IP protocol and then click Properties
On your IP Address tab make sure the Obtain an IP address automatically is checked like below:
Next click the WINS Configuration tab and make sure that it is disabled. Click the Gateway tab and remove any Gateways that have been defined. Then click the DNS tab and click Disable DNS.
Now click OK and then OK again. You will be prompted to restart
your computer. Go ahead and restart your computer.
Some wireless cards require additional client software (drivers). We can not
provide this software, or help you install it. However, you should be able
to find the software and instructions on how to install it and use it on your
vendor's web site.
