PAWS FAQ: Windows XP and the PAWS network
What do I need? Wireless Configuration using Windows XP
Initial Setup
- 802.11b wireless card.
- Software/Driver CD that came with your wireless card
- Windows XP CD
- Dial-up/Modem Bank username and password
- Insert the card into your laptop.
- Windows should automatically install the drivers for your card. If it cannot find drivers for your card, you may be prompted to insert the CD that came with your card.
- Click the Start button, select Connect To, and then Wireless Connection. The Connect to Wireless Network dialog box is displayed.

- Click Advanced. The Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box is displayed.

- Under Preferred Networks click Add. The Wireless Network Properties dialog is displayed.
- Enter UGA for Network Name (SSID). No other options should be selected.

- Click OK.
- You should see a notification in the system tray after a few seconds telling you that you are connected to the wireless network.
Log on to the PAWS network
Open your browser. You should see the PAWS log on screen. If you do not you may need to clear your browsers cache.
You'll need to enter your:
Disabling your wireless card
- MyID
- pasword
If you are in an area where wireless access is not provided, or you are using a wired network port, you can conserve battery power by disabling your card. Right click on the wireless Ethernet icon in your System Tray (lower right corner of your screen next to the clock.) and select Disable. Follow the same procedure to enable the card, selecting Enable.
